But it matters because Mediaite is one of the left-wing outlets that polices the press: deciding which stories get amplified, which get smothered, and which conservatives get hit with the next out-of-context "gotcha." So it's worth your time to know that this self-appointed arbiter of media truth just got caught fabricating the news. |
Colby Hall, Mediaite’s founding editor, just announced that he’s stepping away from the outlet following a 30-day suspension. Why? Because he was caught making up quotes and misattributing information in his paid newsletter. This means he was charging readers for the privilege of reading his fake news. |
Status News is one of the sites at the center of the controversy, which said that Mediate “had fabricated quotes and committed other egregious errors,” in more than six instances “in which Hall appeared to invent stories out of thin air, fabricate quotes or misattribute reporting to the wrong person.” |
It was reported elsewhere that the site was serially misattributing quotes to the wrong people and news networks, including CNN, Fox News, and Politico. Hall didn’t just make one or two mistakes in his reporting, which happens to everybody in the news media. He was continually lying to the very readers who trusted him — with their time and money — to provide the truth. |
