Dear Friend,

On March 17, the Church celebrates the feast of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. St. Patrick is known mainly from two short surviving works: his Confessio, which recounts his spiritual journey, and his Letter to Coroticus, in which he condemns the abuse of Irish Christians by British rulers.

Born in Roman Britain at the end of the fourth century, Patrick was captured at the age of sixteen by Irish raiders and sold into slavery. Forced to tend sheep in the rugged hills of Ireland, he endured years of hunger, cold, and isolation. Yet it was in this hardship that his faith took root. Through constant prayer in the wilderness, his love for God deepened and his trust in the Lord grew strong.

After six years of captivity, Patrick escaped, following a dream in which he believed God called him to leave Ireland. Reunited with his family, he soon experienced another vision—this time urging him to return to the Irish people as a missionary. He undertook years of study and formation, was ordained a priest and later a bishop, and eventually returned to the land of his captivity with a burning desire to proclaim the gospel. What began in suffering became a lifelong mission of evangelization.

In honor of this great saint and his courageous witness, we have designed a beautiful St. Patrick prayer card as a donor-exclusive gift for those who support Word on Fire. This special card serves as a reminder of Patrick's bold faith and missionary spirit. When you make a gift today, you will receive this prayer card as a token of our gratitude.

MAKE A GIFT

St. Patrick's ministry transformed Ireland. He preached among clans and kings, confronted pagan practices, established churches and monasteries, ordained priests, and helped organize the Church throughout the island. Tradition holds that over the course of thirty years, he baptized and confirmed thousands, spreading the gospel across Ireland. His life stands as a testament to the power of grace—how God can use even suffering and exile to bring about renewal and holiness.

As we celebrate his feast, we invite you to follow St. Patrick's example of generous faith and evangelization. Your gift to Word on Fire helps proclaim the gospel with clarity and conviction in our own time. Please make your donation today and join us in continuing the missionary work that St. Patrick so courageously embraced.

God bless you,
