🇨🇺 FBI rescued a kidnapped boy taken to Cuba for sex change surgery. The FBI rescued a ten-year-old boy who was allegedly kidnapped by his transgender-identifying father and his father's partner and taken to Cuba for sex change surgery without the mother's knowledge. Investigators found evidence of an elaborate, multicountry kidnapping plot, including $10,000 in cash, instructions from a “gender-affirming” therapist, and plans to empty bank accounts. Both adults are now in federal custody. |
🛒 "Microlooting” is progressives’ favorite new trend. A New York Times Opinion podcast featured guests, including socialist streamer Hasan Piker, defending shoplifting from corporations as a moral protest, with writer Jia Tolentino admitting to stealing from Whole Foods "on several occasions." They argue that because large companies use self-checkout machines and “steal” from employees with low wages, it is morally acceptable to steal from stores. |
🏛️ Speaker Johnson faces "hell week" as Republicans defy Trump. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is struggling to wrangle votes on three contentious measures: FISA reauthorization, the farm bill, and Senate-passed funding for ICE and Border Patrol. Conservatives are demanding warrant requirements for FISA and a more ambitious reconciliation package, setting up a headache for Johnson as he attempts to wrangle together the slim GOP majority. |
🗽 Mamdani to veto a school-protest buffer-zone bill. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said he will reject legislation that would have created protest restrictions around educational institutions, explicitly citing the need to protect anti-ICE and pro-Palestine demonstrations. Jewish groups, including the ADL, condemned the veto as "a profound failure" to prioritize safety amid concern over rising anti-Jewish violence. |

CORRECTION |
We had a big blunder yesterday. In our quick note about the assassination attempt on Trump, we wrote that it happened at the White House. It actually happened at the Washington Hilton hotel. That was a clumsy error, and we regret it.

EDITOR’S NOTE |
When they try to tear it down… |
Which assassination attempt on the President is this? It's a sad time when you're not even sure if it's the third or fourth. (It's the third.) |
This isn't normal. But political violence is becoming normal, and a philosophy that rationalizes it has been creeping into the mainstream. I'm pointing to everyone who supported the killing of the healthcare CEO, who cheered on the assassination of our friend Charlie Kirk, who helped thrust figures like Nick Fuentes and Hasan Piker into the zeitgeist. |
Still, for some reason, we were chosen to live through these radical times. And like all radical movements, this one seeks to displace what we seek to conserve — our tradition. So if they're going to tear it down, the minimum we should do is embrace it. Proudly. |
