| When you look at the great orders that have existed in the Church—the Franciscans, the Dominicans, the Jesuits—they were all formed to answer the most pressing questions of their time. And for us today, the most pressing question is how to draw people into—or back to—the Catholic faith. The demand right now of the Church is missionary. It's evangelization. We live in a culture where people need to be reintroduced to Christ and reinvited into a life with him in the Church. The theme of our 25th anniversary was "Duc in altum"—Go out into the deep! And that is exactly what these priests are meant to do. Quite simply, they will live and breathe evangelization after being formed in Word on Fire's ethos.
They could work in parishes or dioceses as directors of evangelization. They could teach in seminaries to train future priests in effective ways of proclaiming the gospel. Certainly, they could create videos, books, and other content, as I have done, to reach the religiously unaffiliated across online channels.
But whatever assignment they have, they will proclaim Christ in the culture and draw people into his Church. The possibilities, I think, are endless—and exciting.
With great anticipation, we hope to announce our first few candidates for the order this year. This also means that we will need to begin to house, feed, and train them—and to find the necessary funds to do so. If you are able, please consider making a gift to support our first candidates as we begin this journey together. I am hopeful that this will become a lasting order in the Church, leading the way in evangelization for centuries to come. Please pray for us and these future candidates, that we may continue to be guided by the Holy Spirit. May God bless you. In Christ, |
